the road not travelled
The following entry is a bizzare insight into my self-questioning reflections. Yeah.

An integeral part of who I am is not regretting anything I do or have done, and not worrying about it and working on the present instead. It's one of the most Visa (tm) things about me. But still, once in a while, I think back about how things could have been to see how I would have reacted to everything, mostly to study my own pyschological make-up.

So this is one of those days.

Academic wise, I'm wondering how it would be if I had actually been able to be self-motivated earlier, say, around Sec 1. If I had actually passed GEP and stayed in VSGEP at Sec 2, and then gotten through to VIP when VSGEP broke up. I would be able to actually take literature, theatre studies, language arts, everything that is part of the culture of who I am. (theatre studies and language arts is something I'd much rather be taking than physics, chemistry and geography elective.)

I would actually have it more laid out for me, the path I want to take, et cetera. I'd be able to meet up with old friends, make my parents proud (not that that's actually a concern... but it would be nice), get in touch with James Koh again and sit around on tables after class discussing music, use the wonderful beautifully sexy VJC gym, so on and so forth.

But then I compare it to what I have now, and I can firmly say that all these experiences which I have gotten from being firmly booted from the GEP have made me a better man. I want to spend another two years in this wonderful institution before I go to VJC.

And then I realise how much I've fallen in love with VS.

The atmosphere, the guys. The Victorian Spirit, intangible glory that brought old Victorians who visited by to tears when we cheer and sing our lungs out, stomping the ground so hard, the entire school reverberates. Sports matches, national track and field.

Last year's sec 4s, those times we had. Playing around with the guitar and eating instant noodles every day. Going home at 11pm after a trip to McDonalds and the abandoned houses at the back. Qadir and his dieting friends. Faeez and Hamzah.

This year's sec 4s, the times we will have. The athletes, the ridiculous heat of the gym, the basketball court with the graffiti. Walking around shirtless and cracking dirty jokes in the shower. Jacking. The illegal lift-using, the profit I get from renting ties every monday, the parade square, Ronin coming down to play, the bond we all share.

Mr Chia, Mr Maran, the PE teachers, the pullup bars, the ropes, the canteen uncle with the fake nike cap, the auntie who's followed us from the old school. The seven floors, the school insignia at the top floor. The band members practicing their instruments every morning, self study being spent talking, lazing around. Playing with the fish in the pond.

Everything else that makes me proud to be a Victorian.

And I think again, and I know without a doubt that I'm brilliantly happy here where I am, what I am doing, and my place. It's sculpted me to be who I am, and I simply cannot imagine giving up my upper secondary years of Victoria School.

I am still determined to get to VJC though. I'll see you guys there, then. ^^"

Blogging is now a parasite, clinging on me as a duty. I no longer feel
this need to post thoughts or information on the Web. my hiatus was
supposed to be 1 week long, yet I've not been blogging for weeks. I
find blogging tiring and it seems that there are more impt things to
do nowadays. This shall probably be my last post which i may ever
blog.

I'll be going to Thailand. Boys' Brigade stuff. Basically we will
teach them English and stuff, the usual community work. After that is
enjoyment in Bangkok and well, quite tiring to explain what we will do
there and all that, so I won't. I'm looking forward to it.

Just came back from tuition and textbook ordering. The new year is one
month away, yet it seems so near. Subject comm accepted.yay.

So dun expect much from this blog for more than one week or so. Jus
hopes that no one tries hacking while I'm away.

My father brought my family + ama to Peach Garden Restaurant, some Chinese cuisine yay. my brother jokingly said peking duck, and my mother, said it was our birthday celebration and she could order it, haha. but it was out anyway. Bird flued? My father thus ordered a tim sum lunch instead of set meals.

while waiting for the food, my father passes me and my bro two weird looking packages wrapped up in newspaper. I shake it to see if it is lego, but no. he tells us to open it and i peel a part and from the small hole peeks out "NOKIA, Connecting People". I open it further and remove the newspaper and see "3120". I read the manual while waiting for the food. hoorah. just in time, my old phone can't talk anymore.

Kool Kids rehearsal. Came super early, quite for nothing. Leon was there telling me as usual abt Brittany and her birthday today as well. He has sent her a birthday sms, n was apparently the first one, and tol me abt how Brittany has begun to think that she is his girlfren. I tell him, "Jiajun = Leon".

Come home and cousins arrive soon after. Try to get me into maplestory but i apparently cannot play yet as the download is long and also need to ask my dad (who is in malacca) for permission in such a download.

And cake! by good ol' Da Yi. Oreo ice cream cake. nice. I pinched out the candles instead of blowing it (a first!) and got my Da Yi angry as she scared that i get hurt. And i ate chicken porridge for a late dinner (as i ate a late mee siam lunch). my favs! The rest of the nite, teaching Ling Yong Halo, as borrowed from my sis's fren.

Tuition. so i took the mrt. took a 31 to sch. then two weird thing happend, one after another. I prepare to go down the front entrance of the bus and see Muzzy trying to come up with other Sec 4s ('O' Levels?) . Normally when we pass by we jus like glance at each other, cause i noe his name, but i dunno whether he noes mine, i was jus a sec 1 it clubber when he was sec 3. we glance as usual and suddenly he goes like "Hi Jeremy!". I'm surprised and say "Hello" in a strangely subdued tone. argh. could have replied with as much enthuness.

oh. forgot to say why i stopped by at school. to pass Mrs Jay photocopied certs. i call her up on the phone outside, she opens the door, receives it, and says in a weird high-pitched tone: "You're in your outside clothes! Run away! Run away!" I make an expression that basically meant to mean the meaning of raised eyebrow, but can't raise lone eyebrows, so yah, an expression of that meaning. Amused, i walk off. lol.

Tuition as usual. 2 hours.

Come home. only managed to complete part 1 of specimen 4 of my math textbook qns. quite tired (not really physically) and late den and played games on my new handphone. dinner soon after and yes, after that this.

Welcome to my life (after the school)

Today is probably the last time was wearing short khaki pants. next year tis white longs. yay. anyway my shorts are getting small. my shirts too. ok, enough of victorian cloths, today was a great day.

In the morning was lit sem @ ACS(I). i had to wake up quite early, and take all the way to Buona Vista!(only bad thing) And OH MAN 196 goes to ACS(I)! argh.

Guest speakers were Huzir Sulaiman and Claire Wong, which and they talked about Atomic Jaya(not the lit teacher, though sometimes she can be described as such lol) which reminded me about the nice play. Awfully delightful.

In between was tea break when i got some coffee. Spilt it on myself several times and also got some tea on my garments from the Sean who has not bought the Maksim CD. Cabbageness.

After that were the concurrent sessions. i chose a coldplay analysis thingie (CHS) that looked at how Coldplay was unconventionally literary and the such. Together with it was a NYGH adaptation of the MOV casket scene, which i feel disdain. One fact was how they said that it lacked enough research or analysis. For goodness sake, what has Mrs Jay given us and look at the web too! They also tried to do a modern presentation of the casket scene. It was a good attempt but no where as good as history drama. Come on, most of the people there were the history drama people for the NYGH play.

Well, after that followed my ex-St. Hildan frens cum DHS + some other DHS people as well to Darren's house. Takeawayed Burger King on the way too. Watched The X-Men Evolution there (haha) and Audrey kept complaining how she already watched that episode. Besides both of us plus Yiwei, the rest went to play mahjong.

After the show, the three of us when in and idled around while they were playing mahjong. Amanda was being taught while we were watching and by the time we went in could play fairly well. We played a movie on Darren's laptop. Legally Blonde was tried at first but rejected by the computer (lag, hang, whateva happend) as much as we (except Yuhui) hated it and we tried to find White Chicks. However, it had been lent away so they settled on Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle.

I tried playing mahjong and learnt new rules and stuff Jonathan missed out when he tried to teach me last time. (In fact, his lesson on mahjong was very insufficient). Thus, I officially picked up mahjong and is now able to play properly. yay.

I went home at about 4.

I studied very hard, and i found chinese a sf (sure fail). But i tink i will get quite high for geog and science as i studied very hard...

managed to catch a movie and play one session of com games ("only one?" you may ask. Yesh, bcos ben the boy was still having exams and couldn't play computer at home argh!)

Teacher's Day

for some reason i posted the cow thing yesterday, but I didn't post anything abt teacher's day yesterday.

There was no Aces Day, like a lot of schools had. *mocks* And it was be yourself day. A "Jesus loves me" shirt, bluish pants with some pattern thing, and a choker was what i was. The programme was quite fun, concert items. there was a band thing, a couple were quite good, but some were downright boring. Xue Kai: "kill me." Yes. Then there was some lame sec 1s drama thing which was a tad entertaining. What was bad was a rap on teachers' day by sec 1s(again) whcih was a little less than absolutely horrible. I think it is a modificaition from a 50 cent rap (koganti's info) and it reminded me of a spoof on My Band previously (sec 1s also!). Whatever else, I have thus forgotten.

Our class's band thing was cancelled due to Derrick's withdrawal ON THE DAY ITSELF. it just takes one guy to spoil it. Other interesting stuff include Mr Koh wearing a devil's thingie and Mrs Jay wearing a angels thingie. Juxtaposition lol.

Me and Lester collaborated. I bought G-Tec pens (w00t) for the teachers in the many assorted colours. He made cards. I thus had to sacrifice my $20 voucher from hist drama that I actually planned to use to buy a cd (big, jet, or mebbe maroon 5). Good ol' me.

I had to do Kool Kids after that at Leon's house cause my 3dsmax malfunctioned (one of my previous posts). It was there where I posted the cow apology post.

Today was a holiday. Went rollerblading with my family at East Coast and went to McCafe for the first time for breakfast. Lunch was at the Lagoon, that eating place which Victorians pass by when we jog in east coast. yummy. The rollerblading rental shop had a section next to it for rollerblading, and there were a group of teens dominating it by showing their "pro"wess. I dunno how to describe what they did but I can only say they were good.

Besides, me, leon, isaac, and makoto, darel and desmond have also recently got their accounts. (people from vsgep). other than vsgep people, I know about 4 others with gmail, including my cousin and Mr Ong. Leon's lifelong dream is to see everyone in 2K get gmail.

There are also some lame people using Walla and Spymac, where ads abound. I myself haven't made a full transition to from Hotmail, the kingdom of ads.

I have also invited a friend with my recently got invite, so i have no invites now, sorry to those hopefuls.

im so gonna die.

i have been unable to authorize the 3dsmax on my box, for some reason two weeks ago claimed it had an error amd was unauthorised, and i had 1 week left for trial. so this week i can't do anything. I've tried almost everything, setting the time forward, re-installing, but the authorisation code that the code generator gives does not work at all. they made us use a pirated program in an extra education thing instead of an original, then got so much problems. The 3dsmax i did in NTU during June worked smoothly, but this one on my box has a multitude of problems.

Ms Lau also said if my couldn't work should go Leon's house and do. How to? all days of the week afternoon unfree? so I go at night?

Another thing is the geog project. working with james and gabriel. i dunno wats up with gabriel, but the most he has done is find websites. sent them to the wrong email in the school com lab yesterday, and *promised* me that he could give it to me by that night. today i checked my email and...nothing. I couldn't confront him or remind him today because he was sick. he gets sick a lot more times than me, "the heart problem boy with a low immune system".

so its quite sad at the moment. can't wait for be yourself day on teachers day and the one week break the week after next.

Just realised I forgot to mention one impt thing, only after looking at Joel's msn nick did i remember...our team b got gold in bible quiz! yay! i was in team c however. we went to eat seafood sponsored by our chaplain to celebrate, and there we met a marker. he said team b won ri's team in the tie-breaker by 1 mark! woohoo!

after history drama we went to watch I,Robot, based on a book by Isaac Asimov. Pretty nice, a combination of action, humour, and mystery. quite exciting at times, and they had symbolic links all over the place, making it sorta neat.

I went with jona, leon, and 2 of his catholic high friends.

history trauma

yesterday was history drama.

Positions:
1-Nanyang(again)
2-Victoria(sort of an improvement)
3-Raffles(out of the other three, what else?)

Unlike last year's drama, Nanyang actually deserved it this year. Ours went quite well, with a few minor glitches. Still I preferred last year's VS one, which actually only got 3rd.

The standard has dropped since last year, though the Raffles one has improved drastically (explanation l8r).

While the judges were thinking, they started to play the record of last year's drama, starting with Nanyang. It then moved on to Raffles, and we were revisited with the "wonderful" singing of last year's play. lol. (that is why i say it is a great improvement).

I havent said my role in my class's play. I was doing AV stuff, sound and lighting. yea.

During yesterdae's x-country, i was using tissues faster than trees grow (duh, the whole human race is doing that). I brought three packets of tissues and used them all up. Ended up having to swallow up my disgusting goo as i went home.

So 2dae i hav to stay at home to recuperate. Sigh.

Speech Day

Yesterday was speech day. After more than a month of ardous training, the day finally came. Rahul even thought at first that our speech day GOH drill itself was a rehearsal. That is how hard it is to tell the difference.

I'm quite sad. The two people in my line are Jordan and Weiting, who for some reason keeps on getting screamed at by Herman.

Here's what happened on Saturday:

Morning - had bible quiz training b4 the drill.
L8 morning - drill practice, drill practice, drill practice.
Lunch - Leonard predicted that it could have been komala (is that how you spell it?) but instead it was pieces of meat and vegetable in between two pieces of bread in a styrofoam box in which the general idea of the compliments can be summarised into the word "rotten".
Afternoon - THE TIME HAS COME. we thus showed our superior drill to the inferior mortals of the other uniform groups.
Over - as we marched away, a certain man called Herman was seen walking with two plastic bags. Upon further observation, they were Sausage McMuffins, and 2nd Company plundered the lot. Bwahahahaha.

So that was it. *.* <(phew)

VIP Open House

Yesterday was the VIP open house. I went there not so keen at first, but walked away determined to get myself into this wonderful programme.

Reason 1:
VIP suddenly seemed the right programme for me after the briefing on the system of learning and the style of education. I also found some of the rooms quite cool. The system sounds so unique and unlike the normal curriculum

Reason 2:
The teachers gave us a surprise. We went there, surprised to find Mr Koh as one of the organisers, and Mrs Jay and Mrs Lai advocating the subjects of literature and math. Life in VS GEP would be not as lively without these teachers that have taught me.

Brief Program that day.
8:30 am to 9 am: Registration and collection of handouts
9 to 10 am: Talk by Mrs Chan and Key Personnel on VIP Curriculum and admission
procedures
10 am to 12 noon: Open House. An opportunity to have lesson previews, interact
with teachers teaching VIP etc.

Actually I also met a few of my friends, about 4 from Dunman and 1 from Nanyang.

Argh.

This is the second time Sean has spoilt my pen. My precious G-Tec-C4 Pilot Pen.

There are two ways a G-Tec pen can spoil. Sean did it the first way. The nib is pshed all the way in, making it hard to write. Another way is that the nib bends about 60 degrees. Either way the quality of the pen is compromised, or the pen is unable to write at all.

And I don't want to throwit away, I'll try to use it till the ink runs out, or I'll feel guily dat I did not preserve nature's resources, and also that I did not preserve my money. Of course I'll be lucky if it cannot work, or I'll have to throw it away without guilt.

FACTFILE: Pilot G-Tec-C4

Length of nib: 0.4mm
Cost: abt S$3.00 for pen, abt S$2.00 for refill. (simple math shows that the plastic costs abt S$1.00 meaning the plastic is of high quality, in tandem with the high quality ink.)

User comments: I am happy as I am able to write very well with it. It is smooth, does not smudge, and can be used for quite a long time. When writing with it, I found myself much neater. However, nib gets easily spoilt, and cap becomes loose after a long time. Try not to drop it a lot of times.

BB and BBall

Today I stayed back to practice drill for the Guard of Honour thing for speech day. As usual, Herman was there. Though making us laugh a few times, he did not crack so much jokes this time - you could tell he wanted to get a job done quickly.

This is the first time we practiced with rain - and the first time we practiced that we did not sweat at all.

After the thing some sec2s went to play basketball. I did not get much chances to shoot =( but it was fun anyway. I got quite a few wounds from that game. it was rough, ya, but then my most serious wound came from when I fell and tripped on the tiles while going to get the ball. Abrasion.

Well that was all for that nice afternoon...

Court Metions (Peer Group Advisors)

hahaz, got to miss school today.

there's this thing called peer group advisor when they pull you in bcos they assume you understand these young crime commiting juveniles better then they do. 2day we got a sample of how it was like in the juvenile court, and well, since it happens in the morning, we missed school. Sad, a history test was postponed.

Ya, and we also had to wear long sleeve white shirts and black long pants - starcy stuff - felt quite formal suddenly.

Other people there include my classmates Lester and Koganti, Darel and Wenhui from 3K, Roderick, senior frm BB and Daniel, fellow squad member, frm BB too. (his surname's Pflug!). Teachers were like Mr Oh and Mrs Raj.

We ate at Macs after that and we wrote our reflections there too.
